MCP server · for developers

Ship your SEO from your code editor.

Your team approves SEO changes in Populr. Your AI coding assistant applies them in the code — titles, descriptions, structured data — and checks they're live. In the HTML, where every crawler reads it.

Install

One line of config.

Create an access key in Populr, then add Populr to your editor. The key page fills it into these for you.

Add to VS CodeAdd to CursorVS Code installs the Populr extension — run “Populr: Connect” and paste your key. Cursor asks for it when you install the plugin.

In your project's terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http populr https://www.trypopulr.in/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_POPULR_KEY"

Add --scope project to share it with your team through .mcp.json (keep the key out of version control — use an environment variable).

How it works

Approve once. Ship it properly.

  1. 1

    Approve in Populr

Populr drafts better titles, descriptions and structured data from what each page actually says. The site owner approves them — nothing ships unapproved.

  2. 2

    Apply in code

Ask your assistant to apply your Populr fixes. It reads them through MCP and edits the page head or your framework's metadata — Next.js, Nuxt, Astro, plain HTML.

  3. 3

    Verify it's live

After you deploy, verify_page fetches the live page and checks each change is in the HTML as served. No guessing whether the build picked it up.

Why in code

Not everything that reads your site runs JavaScript.

Populr's one-line script applies approved fixes in the browser, and Google reads those. Most AI crawlers and every link preview read only the HTML as served.

Tools

Seven tools. One of them writes.

seo_status

Start here. Shows the site Populr manages for this workspace, which page fixes are approved and ready to apply in code, which are waiting for the owner's approval, and whether the business details for structured data are filled in.

Read-only
get_seo_fixes

Returns the SEO changes the site owner has approved in Populr — each page's <title>, meta description and JSON-LD structured data — so you can apply them in the site's source code. Pass a path for one page, or omit it for every page.

Read-only
get_structured_data

Returns schema.org JSON-LD for a page, built only from the business details the owner entered in Populr (name, type, contact, address, hours, profiles; FAQs on the home page). Ready to paste into the page's <head>.

Read-only
audit_page

Fetches a live page and checks its on-page SEO: title length, meta description, H1, canonical, viewport, Open Graph and structured data. Returns each problem with why it matters.

Read-only
draft_page_fix

Reads one page of the managed site and drafts a better <title> and meta description from what the page actually says. The draft is saved in Populr for the owner to approve; nothing changes on the live site.

Saves a draft for approval
generate_llms_txt

Builds an llms.txt for the managed site from the owner's business details and the approved page titles and descriptions — a plain map of the site for AI assistants. Save it at the site root as /llms.txt.

Read-only
verify_page

Fetches a live page of the managed site and checks that its approved title, description and structured data are present in the HTML as served. Use after deploying.

Read-only

VS Code & Cursor extension

Or skip the config.

The Populr extension connects your editor's agent to Populr, keeps your key in the editor's secret storage, and adds commands to audit a page, insert structured data and create llms.txt.

Security

Scoped, revocable, read-mostly.

  • A key opens one workspace's SEO settings — nothing else.
  • Shown once, stored as a SHA-256 fingerprint, revocable any time.
  • Six of seven tools only read. Nothing publishes or changes a live site.
  • Page fetches refuse private addresses and re-check every redirect.
  • Rate limited per key.

Questions

Before you connect it.

Do I need the Populr script on my site as well?
No. The script applies approved fixes in the browser, which Google reads. Applying them in code puts them in the HTML itself, which every crawler and link preview reads. Many teams start with the script and move fixes into code as they ship.
Can the assistant change anything in Populr?
One tool writes: draft_page_fix saves a draft for the owner to approve. Nothing an assistant does through Populr publishes, approves or changes a live site — your own deploy does that.
Which editors work?
Any client that speaks MCP over HTTP: Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code (with or without the Populr extension), Windsurf, and others. The server is stateless and needs only an Authorization header.
What does a key give access to?
Exactly one workspace's SEO settings. Keys are created and revoked in Populr, shown once, stored only as a fingerprint, and rate limited.
Does it cost extra?
No. It's part of Populr — the first month is free.
